I am a senior dog lover, advocating for the care and rescue of senior dogs. I do that through this website, my FB group Senior Dog Care Club and fostering and adopting old dogs. I am also a certified dog trainer and pet care consultant, specialising in working with rescue dogs and first time pet parents.
I’m not aware of any ingredients that would have a negative affect on a dog’s heart but I do wonder if any of the ingredients would conflict with his heart medication (making it less effective). I would definitely talk to your vet about it.
Hi. My dog has many health issues, including addison’s, arthritis, cataracts and hearing loss, he now has a slight heart murmur (not on any meds) and is exhibiting some symptoms of cannine dementia. He also has gotten excessively hungry. It used to just be at night, now it’s during the day as well. I have been giving him rescue remedy for 5 or so days. Is there something in there that could be making him more hungry? Thank you. X
Hi Jill. The dementia can increase his hunger instinct. Or rather, dogs are often hungry (they love food)) but remember they only get it at meal times. When a dog has dementia, they may forget when those meal times are and/or the brain loses the ability to tell them they’re satiated. That’s what happened to my dog Chester, who had dementia. He tried to convince me he was starving 24/7. It was my veterinarian that explained that too me after she ruled out all other potential medical causes. I would definitely talk to your vet about your dog’s new habit.
My Cavalier is 12 years old and has developed a nodding head but we can snap her out of it .she has a slight heart murder but is not on any medication.,she is also deaf ,sometimes I think it’s slight dementia. Any advice would be helpful..
