Beds, sofas, blankets
There is no “one size fits all” when it comes to dog beds. If you’re buying for a senior dog, especially one that may have arthritis, consider getting a bed that has at least one side lower than the other. It will make it easier to get in and out of.

Donna
OMG you have so much great stuff on here!!! The little fleece coat would be perfect for my daughter’s little jack russel/chihuahua mix. He doesn’t like the cold at all. I love the choices in beds and raised feeders. My puggle is going to be 8, and while not really old, he LOVES his comfort and I know in time it will be harder for him to jump up on the couch, I will be keeping my eye on the orthopedic nester bed, that looks perfect since he is always laying on the pillows on the couch as well. WIll be forwarding this to my daughter as well!
Hindy Pearson
Hi Donna, thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. Glad you like the stuff!! It was pretty hard to narrow it down to just a few – some many great things to consider. My little Red is forever wearing sweaters and coats, and they really do make a difference in the cold weather. When she goes out she wears both. The steps are great to help them get up onto the furniture (heaven forbid we should say no to that!). I’d love you to forward the post, thanks.
Rawl
Currently I have two dogs ages 13 and 8. They are both rescues. Our 13 year old is the oldest dog we’ve ever had. It’s our first time truly experiencing the senior years for dogs. I had no idea it could be as expensive as it’s turning out to be. We’ve changed her food to something healthier for her sensitive digestive system. We’ve changed the 8 year old’s food as well because he had put on too much weight. He’s got to have a growth removed from his gums and the other one requires regular visits to the vet to trim her nails (since she doesn’t dig anymore) and check her over all well-being.
Now after seeing these raised bowls it will be added to the list of what she needs to make her last years of life more comfortable.
Thank you.
Hindy Pearson
Hi Rawl, thanks for taking the time to comment. Love hearing the word rescues, good for you! Don’t even talk about expense. Red is costing us a fortune. She is at the vet all the time, and the bills are really adding up, but what can you do? Red goes to the groomers regularly to have her nails trimmed. How are your dogs getting on with their new food? Do you feed them set meals, or leave food out for them? I’ve raised Red’s bowls and it seems to make eating more comfortable. She’s also become even fonder of very plush beds. Whatever they need to be more comfortable. If I can help you in any way, please let me know.

I like the selection you have for the best Christmas gifts for dogs! There’s so much to choose from and it’s nice that you have taken the time to select ones that would be great for any dog.
I love the Christmas theme sweater for your dog. It’s so festive and sure to put a smile on any dog owner’s face. The reindeer are so cute!
A new bed is always a nice gift and we can’t forget to get some nice treats like the Northwest Naturals Freeze-Dried Liver Treats!
Hindy Pearson
Hi Dinh, I’m glad you like the selection!! It’s tough trying to figure out what people will like, but I hope my selection is wide ranging enough to suit most people’s taste.
Anthony
Hi Hindy!
It’s great to see a dog lover out there. Too many cats these days! Anyways its funny you say it may be too early to talk about Christmas gifts. My wife starts the Christmas music in September… little early if you ask me haha. Those raised bowls are a great idea I had never thought about them before. That would be much easier on an older dog for sure. We have a little Maltese-Toy Poodle mix that is getting older who likes to (I know we shouldn’t let her) get up on the couch and bed. I wonder if there is some sort of steps type product available out there and where to get it? Thanks!
Hindy Pearson
Hi Anthony, Thanks for leaving a comment, much appreciated. Christmas music in September? Wow, that would definitely do my head in but whatever makes people happy. The raised bowls have helped my dog a lot. What’s a couch or bed without a dog on it? There are lots of steps of different heights out there to help dogs (and cats) of any size hop onto the furniture. A quick internet search will show you loads, but Amazon definitely has several to choose from. You can also find ones covered in a variety of fabrics if it’s important to fit into your decor.

A lot of good ideas, Hindy! Practical and useful. Clothes are an absolute must during a cold winter for especially for smaller dogs. My parents have dog toys where they can insert biscuits for their dogs to try to get out. Sometimes they keep them engaged for a long time as they try to figure out how to get those biscuits out.
Hindy Pearson
Hi Matthew, thanks so much for commenting, and I’m glad you like the Christmas dog gift ideas. I’m not one to dress dogs up in clothes, but when it’s cold out I don’t hesitate to put sweaters and coats on them, especially when they’re older and seem to feel the cold more. Those dog toys are great – you can even fill them up and put them in the freezer, to keep the dogs busier longer.
Emily
hi Hindy!
Wow you really covered every Christmas gift for dogs! Dogs of every size and age 🙂 I am with you about decorations. I like to start decorating early (well end of November). As for gifts for dogs, your ideas here are awesome! I remember buying a stuffed raccoon plush toy for my friend’s dog last Christmas. Boy did he chew the heck of it right away! I really like the black rubber toy as it does seem durable. Is it like a chew toy or one to play fetch with or both? Love the idea of a dog bed and leaving a blanket in it. And the raised bowls are such a good idea! My friend’s dog is huge but she has those raised bowls as he does not move as easily as before. And clothes, well I think it is a bit of a hit and miss. As some dogs do not mind them and some cannot tolerate them to save their life! Has it been your experience too?
Hindy Pearson
Hi Emily, there are so many more gifts I wanted to add, but the post would have been crazy long. The black rubber toy is called a Kong. They’re extremely durable that bounce all over the place. They can be used to fetch, but mostly they’re stuffed with treats to occupy dogs. If you put the stuffed Kong in the freezer, it takes dogs even longer. You’re right about clothes being hit and miss. Lots of dogs won’t wear them for anything (my other dog isn’t keen), but Red is so easy going thankfully, because she shivers and needs them.
Ali
This is a great list of gifts for doggies 🙂 My sister’s dog is a chewer. She chews and swallows practically everything (she’s still a baby) so it’s difficult buying her gifts but I really like the treats you offer here. Especially, because they are all made with healthy ingredients. I now know what to get her for the holidays! Am bookmarking your site 🙂
Hindy Pearson
Hi Ali, thanks very much, glad you like them. Has your sister tried giving her dog a Kong yet? They’re pretty heavy duty, and you can fill them with treats to give her busy. I prefer to buy as natural as I can, so made sure to recommend ones that I would consider buying for my own dogs. Thanks for bookmarking!!
Dave
I’m absolutely loving some of these, and plenty work for dogs of all ages. Mine is 4 years old atm (resque dog from a shelter) and I know he would love the tartan jacked almost as much as I do (I’m a bit of a scotch whisky fan).
The kong I allready use myself and I can recommend it for any adult dog. They love it, it keeps them active and helps with their teeth. And as we all know dental care for a dog is directly related to his life expectancy 🙂
Hindy Pearson
Hi Dave, thanks! There were too many to choose from, very challenging to narrow it down. Love hearing your dog is a rescue – nice to know you saved a life. Unfortunately dental care is one aspect of dog care that is often overlooked. I’m hoping the articles I’m writing about it will help.
Tammy
I can not wait to share your site with my daughter who is a vet tech and has four little dogs. The little bed for her dogs would be a great gift for my “grand babies.” I have a senior Pyrenees dog and she has joint problems so I am looking at your bed her. Which one would be a good fit? She weighs about 100 lbs.
Hindy Pearson
Hi Tammy, I’m glad you enjoyed the post enough to share. The personalized super orthopedic lounger comes in an extra large size. I only highlighted a few, but there are so many styles and sizes to choose from. If you click on any of the images, it will take you to the site to see their entire collections. I will say one thing about beds, especially if your dog has joint problems. Sometimes the big poofy beds require a step up to get on them, and if a dog is stiff that might be tricky. There are many options with the front being lower then the other sides, and that makes it easier to step right into it. Also, dogs can be fussy about their beds. I have 3 for Red (my other dog doesn’t care for them), so she has a choice depending on how she’s feeling. If you get a thicker bed, you may want to add a blanket for some softness, or if she wants to create a pillow. Also, self heating pads can be put onto her bed for a little extra comfort. They often have a faux sheepskin cover and the foil blanket that rescuers use inside. Your dog’s body heat makes it warm. Electric heating mats are helpful, but not everyone likes that idea. I hope this information helps, and if you have any other questions please ask.
